Dirty Rotten Bleeder

Dirty Rotten Bleeder's matchbox series, the artist has said, is influenced by the Fluxus movement (1960's to 1978 approx.) artist Ben Vautier.

In his work, from 1965, a real box of matches is printed with the words, ' USE THESE MATCHES TO DESTROY ALL ART - MUSEUMS ART LIBRARYS - READY-MADES - POP-ART AND AS I BEN SIGNED EVERYTHING WORK OF ART - BURN - ANYTHING - KEEP LAST MATCH FOR THIS MATCH '

Dangerous words indeed, pure anarchy, and aimed, more than anything, at art itself. Bleeder's clever parody and homage is a subtle paraphrase- an encouragement to be a free thinker and conscientious consumer! With its beautifully rendered imaging of ill-registered matchbox printing colours from a bygone era, its a witty manifesto in living colour. A certain duck is mixing up his F's and D's, exhorting change for a better world. Like the best art, it is provocative, and the power, colour and impact of these prints is certainly incendiary.
